Tattercloak

This short story follows dysphoric teenager Cory O'Neill on a surreal journey of self-discovery and carnal awakening during a high school field trip to a nameless city. Other people in my creative writing class compared an earlier draft of this not-quite-novelette to both Joyce Carol Oates's "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been" and, I quote, "some kind of fucked up anime tentacle porn".
